Yup, da U.P.

Here are a few random shots taken over the last couple years in Michigan's Upper Peninsula:

Suzi Blue on a limestone slab shore of the Garden Peninsula, at a time when Lake Michigan had been at a very low ebb for several years.  Lake level has since cycled back up and this spot is surely under 2 or 3 feet of water now.

A pleasant enough path leading to the spot pictured above, sometime in the all too brief summer of the north.

Crossing the briefly thawed tundra on route 415, maybe?  Uncertainty looms.  I remember slogging through a few hours of deep sand, but that hardly narrows it down in Michigan.  First trip after I got the bike, since there's no license plate.

3 bikes of 3 bros. appearing briefly on the pavement, 720 feet above Lake Superior.  The bikes: two 650 Suzukis and a 400 Honda.  The brothers: Just 77, 71, and 66 at the time of the photo.  Combined riding experience: near 160 yrs.

No longer functional, but still cool, you can climb up inside the Stonington Point Lighthouse, then walk the catwalk for some great views of the Bays de Noc and Escanaba.

Was loving this sun-dappled trail on the Stonington Peninsula until it emerged from the woods and devolved into, yep, REALLY deep sand.  Riding alone in the Big Woods on a fairly heavy bike, I'm afraid to run at the speed necessary to float over real dry and powdery stuff.

Not really lost somewhere between Rapid River and Munising.  This was the trip where I burned off a waterproof bag full of clothes and part of the right side-panel.  I said I was old, not smart.  Golly, that exhaust gets hot!

Really lost, wet, and Freezing on the Fourth!  Somewhere between Munising and Manistique, we think.  Coldest week in July I ever remember -- that's my grand-nephew Sam (helluva racer) just shaking his head at the "wisdom" of his elders, who are all out of the frame and pointing in different directions.
